Bryggjan Restaurant Grindavík

Miðgarður 2 - Grindavík

By the Grindavík Harbour

Open daily from 11:00 am to 16:00 pm

The Miðgarður 2 building in Grindavík, built in 1980, originally housed a net making shop servicing the local fishing industry. In 2009, a part if the building was converted into a Cafe on the ground floor, called “Bryggjan” which means “The Pier” in English. Bryggjan served lobster soup and traditional Icelandic food to tourists visiting the Grindavík harbour.

10 years later in 2019, the restaurant expanded to the top floor with a new restaurant hall called “Bryggjan Netagerðin”. The hall overlooks the Grindavík harbour where guests can enjoy watching local fishermen at work.

The new Bryggjan restaurant was very successful and attracted over 120K annual visitors in it’s best years. After surviving the challenges of the Pandemic years, Bryggjan like other businesses in Grindavík, had to close when the series of eruptions closed down the Town of Grindavík for almost two years.

But in June 2025 Bryggjan opened its doors again to visitors and the future looks bright. We look forward to see you!
